Happy Easter, and Happy Birthday, Sam! My last update was more than three months ago, back when it was 2011. That year ended nicely. Ed got me a shotgun for Christmas, and we enjoyed spending time with family. Subsequent 2012 has been The Year Of Early Spring for our area, and The Year Of Amazing Running for me. My success with Insanity last summer has led to success on the road. The power and core strength gained from Insanity has made my body stronger. Additionally, I am using a smarter training plan this year. I do most of my runs at a slower pace, only practicing speed once a week. This plan will help me break two hours in the Mini Marathon in four short weeks. Yesterday, I finished a 15K in 1:19:02. That's an 8:30 pace, and an eight minute PR. I was VERY pleased! Dad and I have had some time to do a little geocaching around the county, and we've discovered some interesting areas. Geocaching is a great way to spend time with family and friends and come across new areas. You should try it! Mom has been enjoying subbing, supervising little Abbi, and watching her eagles scattered across the country. We even went on a bird watching excursion to Monroe Reservoir this winter. Ed has been loving the early spring as it has given him an opportunity to crack out the golf clubs a bit early and head to Otis Park. Sam is busy playing for the golfing Aces of the University of Evansville, and Mac is finishing up his senior year at Bedford-North Lawrence High School. Time seems to go more and more quickly. At Bedford Middle School, we have only 36 days of school remaining. I hope everyone has a great spring. Next time I post, I’ll be a sub-2 half-marathoner!

I've become a horrible JoKai.net updater. Facebook has become the place where I share Cobb/Hackney happenings most often, mostly because it's easier to update and it's more social. However, I can't find it in my heart to archive JoKai.net. It was such fun for me in the mid-2000s (and still is, though I don't use it as much). It's a nice scrapbook of all the happenings in my life and my family's lives since 2005. A lot has happened in the last almost-four months. Ed had a successful season with his BMS football team, and now he is coaching the 8th grade basketball Cutters. Both of us are enjoying great school years. I have a smaller group of students this year (there are only 90), so I've been able to do a lot more "fun stuff" with these groups. Ed and I enjoyed doing a Halloween show with Forever Gold in October. He wore a black wig, and I dressed as a zombie cheerleader. The makeup was a lot of fun! I have taken a hiatus from singing now in order to focus more wholly on running. The Insanity workouts I did last summer have given me a lot of core strength. I used that core strength to set PRs in three races this fall, and I'm continuing to gain strength, speed, and power. It's very exciting for me, and I expect to break my sub-two hour goal in the Mini this spring. Finally, Dad and I have become geocaching extraordinaires, both finding many fun caches and hiding a few, as well. It's a great way to learn about lots of different areas, but my favorite part is spending time with him. I cache with friends, too, and we have a ball! Only two days of school remain until Christmas Break. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Summer has come and gone, and we are in the third week of school at BMS. I'm really enjoying my classes this year. Great math, great kids! My biggest accomplishment of the summer was finishing the Insanity program. Insanity is a 63-day exercise program that focuses on cardio and plyometric development. It helped me drastically improve my fitness, all with the goal of becoming a better runner. I will break two hours in the Mini this year! Insanity was hard work but a lot of fun, too. I still do the workouts to help keep my core strong. The rest of the summer was full of lots of fun activities. Another accomplishment I reached was finding 100 geocaches before school started. Dad and I had a lot of fun exploring our county!

No posting in over two months? Wow, I've come to rely on Facebook for my news posting more than I expected. A lot has happened in the last two months including singing, birthdays (including Abbi's), a new workout (called Insanity and I love it), several golf tournaments and geocaching. Dad and I are really enjoying exploring the county as we hide and seek geocaches. What's geocaching, you ask? Check out Geocaching.com and join in the fun! I have a few gigs approaching in the next few weeks and in August, and then I'll be taking a much needed singin' break. School begins four short weeks from today. I can't wait!
